Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of their Bundesliga Topspiel clash against unbeaten RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Gregor Kobel suffered a hip injury during their 1-0 defeat against Wolfsburg in the DFB Pokal in midweek, meaning that Alexander Meyer will get the nod to start in goal. But not only that, Nuri Şahin will be without Yan Couto, Niklas Süle and Julian Ryerson, while Waldemar Anton faces a race against time to be fit.
Against Wolfsburg, Emre Can started in central defender with Pascal Groß occupying right-back and Julian Brandt in defensive-midfield. It doesn’t bode well for Şahin who has won just four of his eight Bundesliga games in charge while being eliminated from the German Cup.
With Karim Adeyemi, Giovanni Reyna and Julien Duranville also absent through injury, it means that Borussia Dortmund’s bench will have a youth look about it with Maximilian Beier and Anton, if fit, the only recognisable senior players.
Cole Campbell (18), Filippo Mane (19) and Jordi Paulina (20) will be named among the substitutes.
Alexander Meyer – Pascal Groß, Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, Ramy Bensebaini – Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer – Donyell Malen, Julian Brandt, Jamie Gittens – Serhou Guirassy.
