Borussia Dortmund secured their place in a Champions League semi-final for the first time since 2013 when they beat Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate on Tuesday night.

It’s significantly increased Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League revenue and, according to Kicker, the €100m barrier has probably already been broken.

Like every club partaking in the Champions League, Dortmund received €15.64m, and because of the coefficient ranking, which is calculated on the club’s performance in European competitions over the last five years, Die Schwarzgelben have pocketed another €27.29m.

Further to that, Kicker notes that three wins and two draws in the group stage brought a further €10.26m to the club. Dortmund were rewarded €9.6m for qualifying for the round of 16 plus a further €10.6m for reaching the quarter-finals. Last night’s win against Atletico has seen BVB receive a further €12.5m for reaching the semi-finals, totalling €42.96m.

A percentage of the €300.3m TV deal will then be distributed across the participants. Last season, when Dortmund reached the last 16, they earned €13.8m. As a result, Borussia Dortmund are already likely to have exceeded €100m in Champions League revenue with their home game against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final not yet taken into account.
