It is reported the German international will arrive at the Westfalenstadion for a fee worth around €20m with €5m in potential add-ons.

Incoming BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl told the club website: “He didn’t choose the economically best offer from among the many interested clubs, but deliberately chose BVB in order to develop further in sport here.

“We are very pleased that we were able to convince Nico of our path and that he made a clear commitment to Borussia Dortmund by signing a long-term contract.”

Schlotterbeck has impressed for Christian Streich’s side this season as they have made a surprising challenge for the top four places in the Bundesliga.

His form earned him his first international call-up in March where he featured in two friendlies for Hansi Flick’s Germany side.

He will follow Niklas Süle to Dortmund in the summer as Marco Rose looks to revamp his backline.
