As of the 2022/23 season, Michael Eberwein will be back on the goal hunt for Borussia Dortmund's U23s. The experienced striker is joining us on a free transfer from Halleschen FC and has signed a contract until 30 June 2026.
Born in Upper Bavaria, he came through the Bayern Munich academy before moving to the Ruhr area to join BVB for the 2015/2016 season. In three seasons, Eberwein played 84 games for Dortmund's U23s, in which he scored 28 goals and assisted a further 13 strikes. For the 2018/2019 season, he moved to Fortuna Cologne in the 3. Liga. After a short spell at Holstein Kiel, the attacker went to Halleschen FC in the summer of 2022, where the 26-year-old played 73 games for HFC, scoring 20 goals and laying on five assists.
"We know Michael very well and are looking forward to having him with us again from the summer onwards. With his experience of over 100 games in the third tier, but also with his qualities going forward, he will help our young team," said BVB team manager Ingo Preuss about the new signing.
Michael Eberwein is the fourth player the BVB U23s have brought in for the coming season in the third tier, following in the footsteps of Marcel Lotka, Bjarne Pudel and Can Özkan.
