Axel Witsel won’t play for Borussia Dortmund again this year.
The Belgian has suffered a facial injury after an unfortunate fall, the club said on Monday.
Dortmund tweeted that Witsel had been successfully operated on following the accident at home.
Witsel has missed just two Bundesliga games since joining Dortmund in the summer of 2018.
Dortmund are already without Thomas Delaney, meaning Julian Weigl is likely to partner Julian Brandt in midfield until the end of the year.
Before 2019 is over, Dortmund play once in the Champions League and three times in the Bundesliga, including a crucial clash against RB Leipzig.
