“Borussia Dortmund international”: BVB Fan Embassy opens in New York

When presenter Christoph Bökamp asks the crowd which of the fans are from Germany and which are from the USA, the Americans clearly outvote the travelling supporters. Borussia Dortmund have around 40 fan clubs in the USA – and they are ready.

It goes without saying that the Brooklyn Borussen fan club is particularly excited. It will be the first competitive match in the USA in Borussia Dortmund's history – and it will be right on their doorstep. The fan club has already arranged to meet at Penn Station in Manhattan at 8:30 in the morning on the day of the match in order to travel to the stadium together. Many other BVB fan clubs will be joining them. A fan journey rather than a fan march.

On the premises of BK Backyard in Brooklyn, which is completely covered in black and yellow, fans clubs put their stickers on a kiosk. Boston is stuck next to Miami, Atlanta's BVB fan club is next to the Brooklyn Borussen. 550 Black & Yellows chat away excitedly in German, English and even Spanish. “Borussia Dortmund international” has rarely applied more than it does here. Then the crowd sings the song: ‘Erste Runde Krankenschein...’. Joe from the Brooklyn Borussen is not surprised so many of the US fans know the lyrics. He grew up in Bonn himself and moved to New York when he was 15: “I teach the others all the important songs. They know everything by heart now.”

Optimism is in the air. Roman Weidenfeller’s prediction of 2-1 for the opening game against Fluminense is on the conservative side. 3-0, 3-1 and even 7-2 are among the responses to the question: What will the score be tomorrow? And if it really turns out that way, if BVB actually kick off the tournament with a win, then the majority will want to return to the BVB Fan Embassy and celebrate the success there. In international company.
