Mats Hummels will be Borussia Dortmund vice captain for the 2020/21 season, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
The German defender captained the club before controversially leaving for Bayern Munich in 2016.
He did wear the armband on occasion in 2019/20 after returning last summer, but will now replace Lukasz Piszczek as permanent understudy to captain Marco Reus.
Piszczek announced his decision to step back from the role earlier this summer. The Pole is entering his final season with the club and wanted to smooth the transition before his departure.
Axel Witsel will be the third-choice skipper for the coming campaign.
