Borussia Dortmund great Jurgen Kohler insists Erling Haaland cannot be considered world class.

Haaland is being linked with a big money move to Chelsea this summer, though can be signed in 12 months' time for €75m courtesy of a buyout clause written into his current Dortmund contract.

For former Germany defender Kohler, Haaland isn't yet the finished product and doesn't regard the Norway international centre-forward as among the best strikers currently in the game.

Kohler told Ruhr Nachrichten via VG: "He is not a world class player yet. He is a top striker and has the skills needed, but he still has something to prove.

"Haaland lacks the skills to create something out of nothing. What he has achieved as a 21-year-old is incredible. He has come a long way already."

Indeed, Kohler does believe Haaland can develop into a serious talent if he can maintain his current progress. With Borussia Dortmund, since his January 2020 move, Haaland has scored 57 goals in 59 appearances.

Kohler added: "I'm sure he can develop skills that make him unstoppable. When he gets more experience, he will become world class."

Kohler, now 55, played seven years with Borussia Dortmund, twice winning the Bundesliga title and also the Champions League with the Yellow-and-Blacks. The former defender also won the World Cup and European Championship with Germany.
