Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed Lucien Favre will stay on as head coach.
Reports earlier this month suggested the Swiss would leave at the end of the current season.
However, Zorc put those to rest in a press conference on Thursday.
“We are going into the new season with our current setup,” the 57-year-old told reporters ahead of Dortmund’s final game of the season.
“We want to make a run at the top.”
Dortmund will finish second for a second consecutive year under Favre, while a win on Saturday will take champions Bayern Munich to 82 points for the season.
Dortmund’s last title, in 2012, saw them set a then-Bundesliga record of 81 points in a single campaign, but it’s a mark Bayern could surpass for the sixth time in eight years this weekend.
“When Bayern Munich get over 80 points, then it’s very difficult for us and for every other team in Germany to finish ahead of them,” Zorc said.
When asked if the club would extend Favre’s current contract beyond 2021, the ex-Dortmund midfielder suggested talks will be held but nothing seems certain at this point.
“We have great trust inside the club and we’ll hold talks in due course.”
