Borussia Dortmund came close to signing Raffael in 2017

Speaking in an interview with Rheinische Post, Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Raffael has revealed he was close to joining Borussia Dortmund three years ago.

“Borussia Dortmund is the only club where I could imagine playing, otherwise there was only Gladbach in Germany for me,” said Raffael.

“We could not agree on the contract term. I then extended my stay at Borussia Mönchengladbach, which also made me happy. Everything went really well for me at Borussia and I can look back on the best time in my career.”

The 35-year-old is a free agent after his Borussia Mönchengladbach contract came to an end this summer. Raffael is expected to move back to Germany.
