Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have on Monday announced nothing short of a hammer blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that key defender Nico Schlotterbeck has been ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury.
Dortmund are currently in the midst of final preparations for a return to action on Wednesday night.
Turning attentions back towards matters on the continent, BVB will make the daunting trip to Spain, for a Champions League quarter-final first-leg meeting with La Liga leaders Barcelona.
News of such a significant injury blow could therefore not come at a worse time.
As per a statement across Dortmund’s website and social media platforms:
‘Tough news to close out the season: Nico Schlotterbeck has sustained a meniscus tear in his left knee and will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.’
Schlotterbeck’s absence against Barcelona adds to those of the sidelined Niklas Süle and Marcel Sabitzer, as well as the suspended Pascal Groß.
