Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Borussia Dortmund have agreed personal terms with Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez.

The 25-year-old is said to be fond of Dortmund due to the environment of the club. While Álvarez is also said to be fond of the stadium and the fact the fans are behind the team. Dortmund must now try and negotiate a price with Ajax for Álvarez. Bayern Munich were also reportedly interested in the Mexican but have instead focused their efforts on other midfield targets.

Álvarez currently has a contract at Ajax until 2025 having last extended his contract in 2021. The midfielder joined Ajax in 2019 from América in Mexico for €15m. According to transfermarkt, the 25-year-old is currently valued at €35m which could provide a basic indication of how much he will cost Dortmund.

The Mexican has played 44 times for Ajax this season as they went trophyless and finished third in the league. The 25-year-old scored four times and assisted three.

Where Álvarez will play for Dortmund is unknown as at the latter end of the season Emre Can proved to be pivotal for Dortmund at times. The Mexican can also play as a centre-back meaning he will provide extra cover for Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck and Mats Hummels.
