Carlos Borges has paid tribute to his team-mates after scoring four in our 6-1 win over Manchester United Under-21s on Saturday.

City were a goal down in the early stages of the game after Rhys Bennett opened the scoring for the home side before Borges netted on the 26th minute to send the teams in level at the break.

The 18-year-old made sure the matchball was coming home with him after scoring three more alongside strikes from Will Dickson and Dire Mebude sealing the victory.

But individual praise was not on the agenda for Borges after the game, with the winger instead choosing to lay praise at the door of those around him.

“It is the first time in my career that I have scored four and to do it in a derby, I’m buzzing,” he said.

“I am delighted but it is the lads out there that are helping me day-in-day-out, it gives me motivation to help the team.

“It was a good game and they were tough opponents, but we managed to get ourselves back into the game and win 6-1 after we went a goal down early on.

“It was a derby, the most important thing was about getting the three points but I am delighted to get four goals.

“We knew that we would have to be patient and the chances would come our way, when they did we just had to bury them and that is what we did.”

The understanding that him and Mebude have is there for all to see, with the latter providing two outstanding assists for Borges on the day.

Their relationship is blossoming with the wide-man admitting that they get the best out of each other in training as well as on the pitch.

He added: “In training we play like this together, sometimes we do competitions to see who can score the most.

“It shows out on the pitch how strong the togetherness is, we know how to play with each other, and it has been a good season for us so far.

“To win 6-1 win in a derby, away from home, you can’t ask for more really and we are all happy, we know that we have to keep pushing and we will be hoping for the same on Tuesday night against Grimsby.”
