According to France Bleu, Alberth Elis (28) has been placed into an induced coma following a head clash in Bordeaux’s Ligue 2 match against Guingamp on Saturday afternoon.

The Honduras international was stretched off after suffering a head injury in the opening 34 seconds of the match.  Elis was involved in a head clash with Guingamp’s Donatien Gomis (29). Following eight minutes of treatment on the pitch, the former Brest loanee was removed from the field and underwent further assessments within the stadium.

Elis was transferred to hospital but remained in a conscious state when he was transferred to a local hospital from the Matmut Atlantique. Treatment at hospital has revealed he has suffered “severe head trauma” following the head clash, according to France Bleu. As a result, the 28-year-old has been placed into an induced coma and is undergoing treatment with medical teams in Bordeaux. His family are with him as the first results of his examinations are awaited.
