Bordeaux have been relegated to the Championnat National 1 by the football financial authorities within the country.

Les Girondins were due to play in Ligue 2 next season having been relegated from the top flight in 2021/22 but will now drop another division about breaking French football financial regulations.

FC Villefranche Beaujolais have been promoted to Ligue 2 to take Bordeaux’s place as a result of the ruling.

The club have seven days to appeal the decision made by the DNCG.

Bordeaux won the Ligue 1 title in 2008/09 and went on to reach the Champions League quarter-finals the following season.
