Bordeaux have announced the signing of Senegalese international striker M'baye Niang on a two-year contract with the option of a third year.

The 26-year-old was a free agent after officially leaving Rennes in the summer despite spending the second half of last season on loan at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, making five appearances without finding the net. Niang had been at Rennes since 2018, scoring 22 goals and helping the Breton club win their first Coupe de France title in nearly 50 years when they beat Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in 2019.

High hopes  "M'baye is a talented player who knows Ligue 1 well," said Bordeaux Sporting Director Admar Lopes. "He is a striker with a different profile to what we currently have at the club and someone who can bring a lot to our team. We feel we have a player who is very motivated to wear the Bordeaux shirt and we are happy to have him in our squad."
