Real Madrid open to Eder Militao loan exit amid Tottenham interest

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central (h/t Football.london), Real Madrid are willing to let defender Eder Militao on leave in the ongoing transfer window, amid interest from Tottenham.

The 22-year-old has been with Real Madrid since 2019, having joined from Portuguese outfit FC Porto. However, he has struggled to establish himself as a regular at the Spanish capital club. Having featured sparingly in his debut campaign, Militao has fallen further out of favour this term, making just three appearances.

AS via Sport Witness (h/t Football.london) reported last week that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho was keen on signing the Brazilian on loan for the rest of the season in order to bolster his options.

And, Spurs have now been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Brazilian international as Real Madrid are open to letting him leave on loan. However, any move would require Tottenham to cover the centre-back’s wages for the second half of the campaign, which will come up to £2m.

Tottenham did strengthen the backline in the summer with the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City. The Welshman, however, has been used sparingly by Mourinho. Furthermore, Davinson Sanchez hasn’t always looked convincing enough, while Japhet Tanganga has had frequent injury problems.

So, bringing in another centre-back to add depth to the squad for the rest of the season would be a good move. More so, considering that we are still competing on all four fronts. And, Militao, despite his lack of game-time in Madrid, remains an able defender with some degree of experience at the highest level.

So, a loan move for him would certainly be an idea worth exploring for Mourinho and Tottenham. The Lilywhites worked out two deals with Madrid for Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon in the summer. And, it will be interesting to see if they strike an agreement over Militao as well.
