According to a report from The Times, Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel would be open to leaving the club for a Champions League outfit, amid interest from Manchester United.

Manchester United have a complicated situation as far as the goalkeeping department is concerned. David de Gea has struggled to perform at his best level for a while now, leading to calls for his axing.

At the same time, Dean Henderson has excelled on loan at Sheffield United. And as a result, he is vying for a starting berth at Old Trafford moving forward.

Henderson is seen as the long-term replacement for De Gea. However, the club is looking for a more experienced option to cover for him at least for the 2020/21 campaign. And this has led to links with Schmeichel. (h/t Daily Star)

And as per The Times, Schmeichel would be open to a switch. The 33-year-old is reported to have a long-held ambition to represent the Red Devils.

Given that his father, Peter, represented Manchester United proudly for a number of years and is a legendary figure at the club, it is very much understandable that he would want to play at Old Trafford.

However, the report adds that he would leave Leicester only if the transfer fee is satisfying for the Foxes.

As things stand, we have a number of quality goalkeepers on the books already. There is no need to bring in Schmeichel, irrespective of what the future holds for De Gea.
