Real Madrid remain intent on trying to sign top right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in the current January transfer window.
Even though there is confidence that the England star will arrive in the summer, when his contract at Anfield expires, Los Blancos are hoping to fast-track his arrival to this month, more so after last night’s mauling at the hands of Barcelona.
Liverpool, for their part, have been firm on their stance of not wanting to sell their homegrown star in January despite the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer.
But with little over two weeks left in the winter window, that stance might be changing.
Indeed, according to Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport France, Liverpool have identified Bayern Munich versatile star Joshua Kimmich as a possible replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Bayern were said to be confident about tying down the 29-year-old to a new deal but Liverpool’s emergence could change things.
As per the report, Liverpool are in direct contact with the German international’s entourage to explore a transfer as they value the versatility and defensive solidity he brings to the table.
In fact, the report further adds that the Reds would be willing to spend €25 million to sign Kimmich from Bayern Munich in the ongoing transfer window.
It would potentially open the doors for Real Madrid to sign Alexander-Arnold in January as well, with reports suggesting that Los Blancos would be willing to offer Liverpool a similar transfer fee.
There is still plenty of time left in the ongoing window and movements could take place in the coming weeks as Real Madrid continue to entertain the idea of signing Alexander-Arnold now only instead of waiting until the summer.
