Liverpool have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Eduardo Camavinga as Arsenal’s reported interest in the midfielder has been branded as ‘rubbish’.

Le10Sport had claimed Arsenal are pushing hard to sign Camavinga and that they have made him their priority transfer target ahead of the summer.

However, Football London have now responded to the claim by revealing a source close to Camavinga has called the Arsenal links ‘absolute rubbish’, amid interest from the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It is interesting that Camavinga, or his representatives, have seemingly moved quickly to distance from a potential transfer to Arsenal. Camavinga has been playing in the Champions League this season for Rennes and Arsenal’s pending midtable finish in the Premier League could be seen as a step backward for the midfielder, as he could go from Europe’s premier competition to not playing in Europe at all by joining Arsenal.

If this is the case, Liverpool finishing in the top four could end up being vital to their pursuit of Camavinga. The Reds are currently six points off Leicester in fourth, but have a game in-hand over the Foxes. If Liverpool win their game in-hand, they could be three points off the top four with three games left to play – giving them a shot at securing Champions League football for next season. This could then boost their chances of signing Camavinga, if European football is important to him.

Camavinga has been a revelation at Rennes in recent years. He has already started over 50 games in Ligue 1 despite only turning 18 towards the end of 2020. He has averaged a WhoScored rating of 6.88 across 26 starts in central midfield in Ligue 1 and the Champions League this season, showing that he has been consistent despite playing at the top level at such a young age.
