As reported by Radio MARCA’s Alejandro Segura, Barcelona have been greeted by some good news on the injury front as Frenkie de Jong has returned to training ahead of the game against Celta Vigo.

The 25-year-old midfielder had picked up an injury while on national team duty with the Netherlands last month. It led to the midfielder missing Barça’s matches against RCD Mallorca and Inter Milan.

But it seems like de Jong has now returned to team training, handing manager Xavi Hernandez a big boost on the team news front ahead of a packed fixture schedule.

Barcelona face Celta Vigo next in La Liga before taking on Inter Milan again in the UEFA Champions League. Post that, they play perhaps the biggest clash of the season so far, as they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid in the first El Clasico.

Given the number of fixtures coming up, it is important for Xavi to have all his players available at his disposal.

With Franck Kessie struggling to make an impact, and there being no viable alternative for Sergio Busquets, having de Jong back available for selection will come as a big positive for Xavi and Barça.

Even though he has not been a regular starter, de Jong has performed well whenever called upon by the manager. Xavi has largely preferred Pedri, Gavi and Busquets as his starting midfielders, but the Dutchman can provide added option during a busy run of games.
