Leonardo Bonucci has compared the struggles that Teun Koopmeiners is enduring at Juventus to those he suffered at AC Milan.
For many, Bonucci was the statement signing of Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli’s huge 2017 summer transfer window under Yonghong Li’s ownership. They paid over €40m to sign him from rivals Juventus, making him the club captain too.
However, it was not a marriage made in heaven and he returned to Juve one year later, with Mattia Caldara and Gonzalo Higuain (on loan) coming the other way. Bonucci his since gone on to admit he made the switch out of ‘anger’ over his situation with the Bianconeri.
During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bonucci was asked about the difficulties that Koopmeiners is finding having made the big-money switch from Atalanta in the summer transfer window.
“When you change, you erase everything you’ve created and if you don’t join a team that’s already tested, everything becomes more complicated. It happened to me at Milan and if you don’t have a big personality, it becomes even more difficult,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).
The Dutch playmaker decided to swap La Dea for La Vecchia Signora for a fee of over €50m, and has not really hit the ground running in a difficult campaign for Juve, made worse by the fact Atalanta beat the 4-0 on Sunday.
