Milan have found the striker they have been looking for as they have come to terms with Bayer Leverkusen to bring in Victor Boniface on an initial loan. They’ll pay €5M to have him for 2025/2026 and eventually €24M if they want to keep him permanently, Corriere dello Sport informs.
The center-forward will ink a four-year deal if he stays. He’ll make about €3M annually. Igli Tare had already tested the waters for him in June, but Die Aspirin wanted €50M at the time. He’s been working on Dusan Vlahovic and Rasmus Hojlund afterward, without reaching an agreement.
In the end, Bayer Leverkusen accepted the formula later in the summer, and Milan quickly struck a deal with Boniface as well. The Nigerian striker will take the medicals on Friday, which won’t be a secondary aspect. He tore his ACL twice a few years ago and missed significant time with muscular problems in the last couple of seasons. A January move to Saudi Arabia reportedly fell through late due to his injury woes.
The 24-year-old has been productive when available, notching 32 goals in 61 matches. He was particularly brilliant when Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga.
Assuming everything goes right in the final steps, he comes in with an element of risk, which is inevitable if you don’t throw money around, and could be a little pricier than they would have liked. However, they have sound alternatives on their squad if he can’t stay healthy. He meshes well with their other attackers, unlike other options. It’s a gamble that could have a big payoff and not much downside, as they can easily get out of it.
