Rangers have been heavily linked with Andreas Skov Olsen over a potential winter swoop, but the latest reports in Italy suggest (as claimed by the Daily Record) otherwise as the Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic is keen on retaining the services of the young Dane beyond the ongoing transfer window.

“Skov Olsen is doing well. He did well in Cagliari too. Sometimes he should be more proactive, despite not playing in his role. We have many solutions, so I still don’t know how and who I will play tomorrow, but on Skov I know I can count on two roles.”

Mihajlovic told the Italian press in order to cool down the rumours to some extent. The 22-year-old attacker is likely to fight for his place donning Rossoblù colours for the remainder of the campaign.

Although the majority of his Serie A appearances have been as a substitute, a host of suitors are keen on roping him in before the window is slammed shut. Club Brugge have held advanced talks as revealed by the Belgian outlets and the Gers, therefore, must make their move for the €5m-rated Danish prospect.

Olsen progressed through the youth ranks of Nordsjælland before impressing at the senior level. A 26-goal season earned him a Bologna transfer back in summer 2018, but the Denmark international has struggled ever since to cement a place high up the pitch. With 3 goals and 5 assists in 70 appearances [stats via Transfermarket], the youngster is yet to justify his potential in one of Europe’s most competitive and high-profile football leagues.

Rangers, meanwhile, have already strengthened themselves by tying down James Sands from New York City FC. They have signed John Souttar from Hearts on a pre-contract and the hunt is on for further reinforcements with a view to dominate Scottish football in the long run.

Why Rangers Must Not Give Up The Chase

Despite having ample wide attacking options in their ranks, Olsen would be a quality addition down the right-hand flank. The likes of Scott Wright, Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi have been rotated in recent months, however, certain limitations refrained them from making a constant impact similar to Ryan Kent’s prowess and precision from the left.

Roofe is more effective from the middle, whereas Hagi’s creative spark is best utilized if deployed as a ‘number 10’. Wright has mostly been used as the understudy to their wide attackers and the signing of Olsen would boost the Light Blues with an outright right-winger. It is to be seen now whether Bologna compromise their current stance and sanction the transfer in due time.
