Southampton have officially announced that chairman Henrik Kraft has resigned from his role. From now on, the owner Mr. Dragan Solak will oversee the chairman position.
Currently, Southampton FC are in a big mess. We've reached the middle of January and there haven't been any signings to improve the senior team.
Furthermore, a lot of players face uncertainties over their long-term Southampton future. And now there has been a big change in the club's management, as well.
Recently, Southampton announced that chairman Henrik Kraft has stepped down from his position.
Well, a hierarchical change in the boardroom isn't surprising. What's more concerning is the fact that the Saints spent half of the transfer window to reach this conclusion.
As per the club statement, Kraft was in charge of Southampton's sporting operations. Thus, it is safe to assume that he had a big say in the transfer-related decisions as well.
One that saw the Saints make nearly €200 million in player sales even after getting relegated.
That vision, unfortunately, is now gone. The club statement also mentioned that the owner Mr. Dragan Solak has currently taken the chairman's responsibilities as well.
As people say, change isn't always appreciated but it could lead to something better. Similarly, Kraft's departure could be the dawn of a much bigger project at Southampton.
The Saints have looked far too slow in their approach towards the January transfer window, which must change now. First of all, Southampton has one of the biggest squad sizes among the Premier League clubs.
According to Transfermarkt, the Saints currently have 33 players on their roster.
Selecting a lineup from this huge squad is more of a stress than a flexibility for any manager. Thus, it's wise to admit that Southampton need to trim their overly bloated squad.
Taking a closer look, there are a lot of players who don't feature much in their recent matches. So, a better strategy would be to either sell them or resolve their future at the club by the end of the season.
In terms of new January signings, the club should first finalise some departures before deciding to buy a player. If possible, Southampton should try to sign at least one player from this trio.
