After sacking Thomas Reis, Bochum are set to appoint Thomas Letsch. Initially reported by Bild, the 54-year-old is under contract with Eredivisie side Vitesse but has reportedly reached an agreement with VfL to become their next head coach.

Negotiations between Bochum and Vitesse are currently underway as the Bundesliga side negotiate a compensation fee. Born in Esslingen am Neckar, Letsch has managed 101 games at Vitesse since 2020. The coach has held the same position at both Austria Wien and Erzgebirge Aue.

Bochum dismissed Reis last week after failing to win any of his opening six Bundesliga games. U19 coach Heiko Butscher has taken charge on an interim basis and picked up a point against FC Köln on Sunday.

Speaking about the decision to sack Reis despite the 48-year-old securing their Bundesliga status for the current season, managing director Patrick Fabian said: Thomas Reis has a connection to the club and the city that goes beyond the successful past three years. It’s also true that there were efforts before the season to continue working together.”
