Gimnasia will now face second-division Central Córdoba in the Copa Argentina quarter-finals.

Boca Juniors, currently in sixth place in the Superliga, will also be concerned about Darío Benedetto’s condition after he was substituted 12 minutes into the match.

Benedetto returned to Boca just a month ago after he suffered a knee injury in November which eliminated any chance of representing Argentina in Russia.

Just before he was taken off for Carlos Tevez, the striker went down and grabbed the back of his right thigh.

Though the injury has been described as ‘muscular discomfort’, Benedetto will have caused fans to sweat when he raised his hand immediately to signal that his night was done.

Tevez will most likely start their Copa Libertadores match against Cruzeiro in between Mauro Zárate and Cristian Pavón.

As for the match, it was all set to go to penalties after a very dull contest, until Gimnasia’s Jan Hurtado snatched the win at the death.

Boca’s loss eliminates any possibility of another ‘Superclásico’, as the two clubs were on course to meet in the semi-finals.
