Bradford City's 21-year-old attacking midfielder Bobby Pointon has caught the eye with two goals in his first four League One appearances.

He signed a new contract with the West Yorkshire side at the start of August, telling the Bantams' website: "I have supported this club my whole life, played here since I was young, and I love coming down every Saturday to play."

Regarding the new contract, Manager Graham Alexander mentioned Pointon "is talented and hungry", which is perhaps an accurate statement to make for a young player who already has 14 goals in 86 appearances across all competitions.

Bobby Pointon expected to become Bradford City's "record sale"

FLW's Bradford City Fan Pundit, Boris Thomson, spoke to us with both excitement and a little worry about the academy product's trajectory - because he thinks he'll end up getting "pinched."

"Bobby’s going to have a huge impact for us this year. I think it goes without saying that we’re all a bit concerned as Bradford fans that he will get pinched, but he has just signed a new contract until 2027, which is a promising sign," he explained.

Thomson mentioned how rival supporters praise Pointon's performances - which suggest his talent is already being recognised beyond Valley Parade.

"Often you see opposition fans giving some sort of reviews about the game on social media - Pointon’s name always crops up as a player they were impressed by," Thomson told FLW.

"It won’t be long before somebody makes a serious offer for him from a couple levels above, for the right amount of money, obviously.

"He could be in a year's time, our record ever sale, and I honestly believe anything less than that, most Bradford fans - myself included - would be slightly disappointed," he added.

The "right amount" could see Bobby Pointon depart Bradford City

Pointon scored in Bradford's 2-1 opening day victory over Wycombe Wanderers - which came just seven minutes after Antoni Sarcevic had opened the scoring.

Beyond goals and assists, Thomson says there are other qualities to the 21-year-old's game that make him an attractive option for teams in higher leagues.

"He’s going to have a huge impact for us, he’s got huge potential in the future. I think, maybe not in terms of goals and assists, but his on-field presence, his workrate - it does not go unnoticed that he is one of our most valuable players.

"I hope we can keep him longer than 2027, but who knows, because he’s got the talent and the potential to play higher than League One.

"However, I will say he clearly loves the club. He’s a product of our academy, a Bradford fan, and signing that new contract clearly showed us he’s here to stay - for now."

In the 24/25 season for the Bantams, Pointon found the back of the net six times whilst managing five assists in 40 league games.

"But for the right amount of money, I think both the board and Alexander’s opinion on him could change," Thomson concluded.

For now, Bradford fans can obviously continue to enjoy watching one of their own continue his development in League One, and they'll have to wait and see whether Thomson's prediction of a record sale could happen in the future.
