Referee Bobby Madley has unexpectedly quit as a Premier League official due to “a change in personal circumstances”.
A statement from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) said Madley had “decided to relocate” and would no longer continue as a referee.
The 32-year-old was one of 18 full-time professionals in England and took charge of 91 top-flight matches since 2013.
He was in charge of the 2017 Community Shield at Wembley and oversaw 19 Premier League games in 2017-18.
A report in the Telegraph on Thursday evening has suggested that it could be due to a video being shared on social media, although that has not been confirmed.
