Chelsea earmark Juventus star Adrien Rabiot as a potential midfield solution

According to Tuttosport (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea have identified Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot as one of their potential midfield options in the transfer market.

With the boardroom uncertainty settled and an all-but-confirmed conclusion reached in the Romelu Lukaku saga, Chelsea can now slowly start getting back to business. It would appear that they already are.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that Juventus will be entertaining offers for Rabiot and that the Frenchman wants to leave Turin as well. Interest from the Premier League was mentioned by Romano and Chelsea may be contributing to that.

Rabiot made 45 appearances for Juventus last season, but was inconsistent and struggled for form during what was a season to forget for the Old Lady. Throughout the campaign, he contributed to no goals and made just two assists.

Manchester United are also linked with a move for Rabiot as part of Erik Ten Hag’s summer rebuild, in which case, Chelsea could be going head-to-head with their domestic rivals for the French international.

Rabiot joined Juventus from Paris St-Germain on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 and has since played 129 times for the Serie A giants. Owing to inconsistent form, Juve’s recent struggles and the fact that he is now 27, Rabiot’s stock has fallen considerably.

Is a reunion with Tuchel really a good idea?

Reunions are nice to think of, but not always nice to have. Thomas Tuchel is no stranger to Rabiot, the pair having worked together before at PSG.

The German is aware of the player’s struggles over the course of a campaign. Whether this will help him manage the midfielder better is debatable. At 27, Rabiot is in his prime and could return to his best under the right guidance.

Following the boardroom reshuffle, it has also been reported by the Telegraph

It remains to be seen how Tuchel will react to a potential reunion with Rabiot. The Frenchman’s recent form doesn’t provide any substance either to make a case for Chelsea to sign him.
