The Brazil international arrived in 2020 on a free transfer from French side Paris Saint Germain, and was a key part of the side which won the club’s second Champions League in 2021, as well as the Club World Cup.

Pochettino praises Thiago Silva

The 39-year-old and his family have fully immersed themselves in the club, and Silva has created a special bond with Chelsea supporters, often being the last one off the pitch no matter the result.

The veteran’s departure will not only effect the Blues on the pitch, but also off it, where his experience and leadership qualities have been of benefit to the young squad.

Silva is ruled out of the game at Stamford Bridge with a groin issue picked up against Aston Villa, and is one of 14 players the Blues are set to be without tomorrow night.

Axel Disasi is also ruled out meaning Benoit Badiashile will most likely partner Trevoh Chalobah, with Marc Cucurella at left back and probably Alfie Gilchrist at right back, given Malo Gusto is still injured.

The Blues head into the derby ninth in the table, five points behind Newcastle in seventh, which as things stand is the last available place for European football.
