Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur dealt blow as Arsenal lead the race for Juventus ace Dejan Kulusevski

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio speaking on Football Daily (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow as bitter rivals Arsenal are leading the race for the Juventus forward Dejan Kulusevski. The North London rivals have been keeping tabs on the situation that is developing in Turin.

Kulusevski has featured in 18 matches this season and has a goal and two assists to his name. However, he is getting used as a squad player by Massimilano Allegri, who has not preferred him in the forward line.

The 21-year-old has played only 597 minutes in those games, which do not even amount to seven full games in total. Di Marzio got asked whether which of the bitter rivals would be the destination for the Swedish international.

Matthijs de Ligt and Dejan Kulusevski celebrates a victory.

“Arsenal, Arsenal wants him. They’ve had the first contacts with the agents. Juventus bought him for €35m plus bonuses, so it depends on how much Arsenal want to invest in this player. But I know the first contacts are made by [Arsenal].”

What next?

That is definitely a blow as the Gunners making the first move shows their intent and gives them a chance to lay the crucial groundwork. However, all is not lost as there is plenty of time before the January transfer window begins. Not to mention, they are yet to reach a common ground with Juve, which is always a piece of good news.

Antonio Conte, Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy would have to decide on their interest as quickly as possible so that we are not left behind in the race.

Some may be concerned by the Seria A forward’s goal involvements this season but what we need to understand is that his team has been underperforming for a while. The Bianconeri had a disappointing campaign under Andrea Pirlo and, that has remained the same under Max Allegri.

Others like Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala, for example, have also arguably been affected by the slump and naturally, he is also bound to be on the same page. Not to mention, Kulusevski is not getting regular starts at the Allianz Stadium.

Should he sign for Spurs, it would be interesting to see where he would fit in as he would be a good option in multiple positions. But that is something we would only need to worry about if we can beat off the potential suitors for the Swede.
