Real Madrid have plans to reinforce their midfield unit in the summer transfer window, having lost Toni Kroos at the end of the previous season.
With Luka Modric’s contract also expiring in a few months and the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga not stepping up on a consistent basis, Los Blancos are considering entering the market for a new midfielder.
As has been reported already, Real Madrid admire Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi and see him as a viable target for the summer window.
However, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid are likely to miss out on Zubimendi as he is currently in advanced talks with Arsenal over a transfer in the summer.

The Gunners have been long-time admirers of the Spanish international, who was part of the La Roja squad that won the UEFA Euro 2024 last summer.
As such, Arsenal have already activated the process to bring Zubimendi to the Emirates Stadium next season and are already in advanced talks with the midfielder.
Zubimendi has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract at Real Sociedad, which Arsenal are expected to trigger in order to sign him.
So, Real Madrid’s chances of signing the Spanish international appear slim unless talks between Arsenal and the player fall through.
