Real Madrid will resume their transfer business once their involvement at the Club World Cup comes to an end this week – either after Wednesday’s semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, or the final this weekend if they defeat the European champions.
A deal for Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras will be resumed, and there could be one or two more signings made ahead of the 2025-26 season kicking off in August. On top of this, there will almost certainly be departures.
Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez will be leaving upon the expiry of their contracts, but outside of this, a number of other candidates in Xabi Alonso’s squad have been identified. Rodrygo Goes and Endrick Felipe are facing uncertain futures, while Club World Cup hero Gonzalo Garcia could also depart.
Gonzalo had been expected to leave Real Madrid, but after his exploits in the United States, there are now chances for him to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the club could still decide to cash in due to growing interest in his services, with Chelsea being one of those keen on a move.

But it has been revealed by Getafe president Angel Torres (via MD) that the 21-year-old would only head to the Coliseum if he were to leave Real Madrid this summer. He also confirmed that another Los Blancos starlet in Victor Munoz could also make the move.
“We have an agreement with Gonzalo. There was a commitment that as long as he didn’t stay at Real Madrid he could come. This is an agreement from a month and a half ago with both the club and the agent. I have hope, if Gonzalito comes it would be a good help. We also have Víctor Muñoz committed, but he is at the World Cup too.”
However, it would be a surprise to see Gonzalo move to Getafe later this summer, as Fabrizio Romano has reported that Real Madrid do not intend to listen to any offers for the young striker. Their idea is for him to be in Alonso’s squad for next season.
It is wise for Real Madrid to retain Gonzalo. He has shown his quality at the Club World Cup, and he will certainly be an asset for the 2025-26 campaign.
