According to reports, Premier League outfit Crystal Palace ‘want to appoint’ ex-Chelsea head coach Graham Potter as Roy Hodgson’s successor.

Potter has been out of work since leaving Chelsea at the start of April. He endured a miserable seven-month spell at Stamford Bridge and he is without a club heading into the summer.

Last week, it was reported that he is the ‘favourite’ to become Nice’s new manager as they are looking to replace Didier Degard.

Man Utd bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe owns the Ligue 1 outfit and it has been indicated that his pursuit of the Premier League giants is ‘slowing down’ the process of Nice appointing Potter.

According to Foot Mercato, Crystal Palace are looking to snatch Potter from under Nice’s nose as they have ‘chatted with’ the English manager.

Hodgson earned five wins and three draws as he guided Crystal Palace to safety but he does not ‘represent the future’ and the Eagles are ‘looking for a new coach’.

Palace ‘absolutely want to appoint Potter’ as his ‘failed stint at Chelsea didn’t do too much harm to his reputation’.

The report also points out that Potter ‘is also in the sights of INEOS’ and they want him to ‘come and sit on the Nice bench’.

Hodgson rolled back the years to turn Palace into one of the in-form teams during the run-in and he managed to get the best out of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.

The 75-year-old indicated ahead of Palace’s final game of the 2022/23 season that he will not be staying with the club beyond the end of this campaign.

“As far as I’m concerned, this is my last game,” Hodgson said. “I signed a contract here until the end of the season and I was grateful to do so. All along, I have seen this as my last game on my contract and as far as I’m concerned that’s what it is.”

Over the weekend, Eagles midfielder James McArthur lauded Hodgson and his coaching staff for their “brilliant” work since returning to the club.

“In the changing room, all the boys thanked him,” McArthur said in quotes via the Palace website. “We don’t know what’s happening next year, but we thanked him for his effort this year.

“The coaching staff have been brilliant, the team are playing with real confidence right now and he’s instilled that in the lads.”
