Transfer News: Manchester United dealt John McGinn blow as Aston Villa uninterested in sale

According to 90min, Manchester United have been dealt a transfer blow in their pursuit of John McGinn as Aston Villa will not entertain any offers for him. He has made a name for himself at Villa Park and his performances have not gone unnoticed at Old Trafford.

McGinn is tied down at Villa Park until 2025, which in and of itself would pose a challenge for the Red Devils to overcome. With Villa ready to open negotiations regarding an extension, the Red Devils could find themselves in a sticky spot. The arrival of Steven Gerrard has heralded a new era and Billa are not ready to let one of their key cogs leave.

Gerrard is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old, and he believes that the latter can reach ever further heights with proper guidance. His side is unmoved by the interest from Old Trafford and believes they hold all the cards over his future. They plan to reinforce their squad and compete for the Champions League football over the next 18 months, a sign of their growing ambitions.

The Manchester club had shortlisted the Scottish international alongside Declan Rice of West Ham United and RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara as potential reinforcements for their midfield. The Red Devils have decided to prioritise signings in the middle of the pitch this year to complement the attack and defence that they strengthened last summer.

What next for Man Utd?

Losing out on the Villa star will deal us a damning blow since his presence would have added more dynamism to our midfield. His grit is what we desperately need at the moment, as the lack of someone with a strong mindset has affected the team over the past few years.

We cannot dwell on losing out on the Scottish star since the need for midfield additions has reached a critical level. Rice and Haidara are great options indeed, and the club must make sure that they do not face a similar scenario in their other pursuits as well.

The Lions are planning to raise their ambitions as they look to target the top-four places in the Premier League. That means we cannot be lethargic or we would get left behind by them as they look to build a new era of dominance.

Villa are not alone as our other direct competitors like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also pushing to raise their quality. There is much work for Man United to do and just how the club decides to move ahead remains to be seen.
