Liverpool may be set to miss out on the signing of Memphis Depay as the attacker has reportedly been in Barcelona house-hunting ahead of a summer transfer to Spain.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Depay traveled from France to Barcelona on Wednesday to look for a house to live in next season upon joining Ronald Koeman’s side.

The report claims Barcelona are keen to snap him up on a free transfer, but a deal has not been completed as of yet, with Liverpool also keen on the forward.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

If the information presented by Mundo Deportivo is accurate and Depay has been scouting out houses in Barcelona, it could represent a huge blow for Liverpool. It would suggest that Depay believes that he will sign for Barcelona this summer, as he is looking for a place to stay in the city where he is touted to be playing his football next season, rather than coming back to England to join Liverpool.

This is disappointing for Liverpool as Depay’s sublime form for Lyon this season suggests that he could be a quality addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Depay has racked up 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for Lyon in France, showing that he can score and create goals consistently whilst playing in a variety of positions across the frontline. This shows that he is flexible in terms of the roles he can play whilst still able to provide real quality in front of goal at the top level.

The race is not over yet, though, as the report explains Barcelona have not sealed a deal for Depay. Therefore, Liverpool could still be in with a chance of landing the attacker, but this update does not fill us with confidence that Depay will be seen in a red shirt at Anfield next season!
