Inter Milan striker Alexis Sanchez won’t be able to shake off his injury in time for the Bologna clash in the Coppa Italia.
The Nerazzurri will launch their domestic cup campaign with a meeting against Thiago Motta’s glowing side in the Round of 16.
The decisive encounter takes place at the Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday, with the winner booking a spot in the quarter-finals.
While Coppa Italia fixtures usually offer the coaches a chance to rotate their ranks, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi doesn’t have sufficient numbers upfront.
Following his team’s win over Lazio last night, the manager seemed optimistic about Alexis Sanchez’s condition. He even suggested that the latter could be available for the midweek clash.
However, Sky Sport Italia journalist Matteo Barzaghi (via FcInterNews) reports that the Chilean has failed to overcome the muscular injury he sustained in preparations for the Lazio clash.
Hence, the former Barcelona and Arsenal star will also skip the contest against Bologna.
Barzaghi notes that the club will be assessing the veteran’s condition later in the week before making a decision on his availability for the Lecce clash.
The Nerazzurri will host the Giallorossi at the Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday, the 23rd of December.
But in the meantime, Marko Arnautovic remains the only natural back-up for Inter’s main striking duo of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
Therefore, we shall see who will lead the line for Inzaghi in Wednesday’s encounter against Bologna.
The Emilians are flying high in the league. They currently sit fourth in the Serie A standings, having collected 28 points from 16 rounds.
