Charlton Athletic have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Blackpool wide man Rob Apter, with Football Insider claiming the deal is worth over £2m.

The 22-year-old scored eight goals and provided three assists for the Seasiders in League One last term, with his ability to beat a man and make things happen in attacking areas attracting the interest of Nathan Jones.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce recently conceded that the Addicks were in talks to sign Apter and that it would be difficult to stand in his way if an agreement was reached.

Football League World’s Charlton Athletic fan pundit, Sam White, is incredibly excited to see Apter move to the Valley this summer.

“It would definitely be good to sign Apter if we can,” stated Sam. “He’s definitely one for the future.

“I think teams or players will see what Nathan Jones has done with players like Tyrese Campbell and Thierry Small, and will just want to thrive under someone like him, especially if it means that they get a go at the Championship and potentially earn more money.

“So, I'm all for signing Apter. He’s young, exciting and someone that has got plenty of experience, albeit at League One level, he’s definitely a player that could have a strong future in and around the Championship.

“I think the club will look at it and say, 'if we can get a really good year out of Rob Apter, you end up taking a player worth £2.5 million probably to £7/8 million, even up to £10 million if not more', and that only benefits you as a club.”

Rob Apter would be a quality addition for Charlton Athletic

Nathan Jones and Co. have their work cut out for them next season, with the Championship set to be tightly contested.

Usually, the promoted clubs from League One are among the favourites to be involved in the relegation scrap. However, the unique nature of Birmingham City and Wrexham’s rise means that it isn’t likely to see them at the bottom of the table.

Therefore, it will be arguably even tougher for Charlton next term, who don’t possess the same riches as that pair.

Adding creative quality to their ranks will be crucial for taking advantage of decisive moments in games, with the addition of a player who possesses the ability to unlock defences being worth its weight in gold after 46 games.

Apter has improved visibly over the past couple of seasons, with his loan spell at Tranmere Rovers in the 23/24 season that saw him bag 13 goals and six assists in 40 appearances, an important part of the 22-year-old’s development.

The Addicks would be acquiring an asset that could not only help them in the short term, but could also potentially be sold on for a big profit in the future.
