The 23/24 Championship ship top scorer is set to attract plenty of top level interest.

Blackburn Rovers are yet to receive a formal bid for star man Sammie Szmodics, as the possibility of a new deal for the 28-year-old remains on the cards, as per the Lancashire Telegraph.

Even before the previous campaign finished there was a level of seeming understanding among those at Ewood Park that the Irish international might be quite hard to keep hold of in the summer.

The attacker found the back of the net 27 times last season for a side that were involved in a relegation scrap until the very end.

This level of performance is always guaranteed to attract suitors from far and wide.

We are still in the very premature stages of this transfer window, but the lack of formal activity around the forward may be quite an encouraging sign for Rovers supporters.

The Lancashire Telegraph have reported that there have been no official offers made to Blackburn for the services of Szmodics. They understand Turkish side Galatasaray to be one of the sides that are lining themselves up for a potential bid.

Other teams that have been named as being interested in the 28-year-old are Luton Town, Brentford and Sheffield United.

Journalist Alan Nixon had previously reported that Blackburn want between £15-20 million for the league's golden boot winner. However, the Telegraph believes that, while the valuation of Szmodics may have been discussed by those within the club, there is no agreed price point for him.

Szmodics has previously stated that he is happy at Ewood Park, and that happiness is sure to be tested this summer, especially if the chance to play in the Champions League with Galatasaray presents itself.

If the likes of the Bees, the Hatters or the Toffees do make a formal attempt to get him, that could prove to be quite the temptation too for the player, who has said that he would want to play at the top level if he had the chance to.

The Telegraph further added that the Irish international signing a new deal with the club on improved terms is within the realm of possibility.

Manager John Eustace has expressed publicly, and privately, as per the Lancashire outlet, that he would like to keep the 27-goal man. Whether it makes financial sense to hold on to him, given the precarious monetary state that their owners, the Venky's, are in at the moment, is up for debate.

The club did receive £18 million for England international Adam Wharton in January, and they are set to receive £5 million in sell-on fees from Brentford when former goalkeeper David Raya seemingly inevitably joins Arsenal, permanently, this summer, so that should make a sale of the forward less of a necessity.

Losing Szmodics may be sad for Blackburn, but it may be best in the long-term

You don't want to sound like a killjoy or a pessimist, but there is a chance that the 28-year-old doesn't replicate his form from last season again next time around.

The 23/24 campaign is currently the anomaly in his career. Szmodics hadn't been slowly adding to his goalscoring tally year-on-year; this wasn't on trend for him.

He will almost never be worth more money for Blackburn than he is worth now, and, in those moments, you just have to take the emotion out of it and think about what's best for the club.

That's not to suggest that his contributions last season weren't of great meaning. His goals alone brought 16 points to Rovers' tally. Without his brilliance they would have gone down.

You just don't want to miss out on an opportunity like this to cash in, when the financial state of the club isn't at its peak, and regret it down the line, whether it's because you failed to invest in the squad, or whether the money was needed for more club-threatening issues.
