Blackburn Rovers have reportedly rejected a bid of £15million from Watford for Adam Armstrong, according to The Sun.
Armstrong had been in impressive form for the Lancashire-based side in the 2020/21 season, as they finished 15th in the Championship table, whilst under the management of Tony Mowbray.
The former Newcastle United forward netted 29 goals in 43 appearances for Rovers, and it appears as though his strong performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
Watford were believed to be keen on a deal to sign Armstrong on a permanent basis this summer, as they looked to prepare for life back in the Premier League, after winning promotion from the second tier last term.
But Xisco Munoz’s side have been knocked back in their first approach for the 24-year-old, and it remains to be seen as to whether they’ll follow that up with a second bid at this stage.
The Hornets were reportedly willing to include Andre Gray in a potential move for Armstrong, but Blackburn aren’t believed to be keen on having him at Ewood Park on a season-long loan deal.
It is claimed by The Sun that Blackburn are keen to obtain a fee in the region of £25million, with 40% of the profit from any sale going to his former club, Newcastle United.
Southampton were also previously credited with interest in signing Armstrong, although it remains to be seen as to whether they’ll submit a formal offer anytime soon.
Blackburn are set to take on Swansea City in their first match of the 2021/22 Championship season, in what is likely to be a tricky test against season’s beaten play-off finalists.

The Verdict:
It’s good to see Blackburn standing firm in their valuation of Armstrong.
He’s been nothing short of outstanding for Tony Mowbray’s side in recent seasons, and he’d leave a sizeable void in their team if he was to depart.
With 40% of the profit from any potential sale going to Newcastle United, Blackburn will be keen to get as much as possible for his services this summer.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Watford are to come in with a second offer for Armstrong, as he could certainly add goals to Xisco Munoz’s side.
