Blackburn Rovers finished seventh in the Championship last season in what was a tumultuous campaign.

The East Lancashire outfit appointed Valerien Ismael as their manager in February after John Eustace decided to switch Ewood for Pride Park.

However, Rovers’ boss suffered a nightmare start, losing five of his first seven matches in charge and failing to win until almost two months into his reign.

A brief turnaround in form saw Blackburn make another push for the play-offs at the season’s close, but it proved to be too little, too late.

As Ismael looks to bolster Rovers’ squad this summer, his side have recently been linked with a loan move for Everton youngster Harrison Armstrong alongside fellow Championship outfits Derby County and Hull City, as per TEAMtalk.

Football League World’s Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Simon Middlehurst, would be keen to see the move progress following the midfielder’s performances last season.

“I’m excited about the links to Harrison Armstrong,” stated Simon. “He had a really strong second half of the season last year for Derby.

“He was really crucial in helping them stay up in the Championship. He's clearly a player that Everton think highly of as well.

“He played against Blackburn in a pre-season friendly, and he looked quite sharp and lively. I think the way that Valérien Ismaël likes to play his football would also suit Armstrong.

“He's definitely a player who likes to play down the middle. So, with the rumours that Lewis Travis might not sign a new deal and with Sondre Tronstad possibly on his way out due to family issues etc., it's definitely an excellent option and one that I think would be welcomed by Blackburn fans.”

Blackburn Rovers could struggle to beat out Derby County in the race for Harrison Armstrong

At just 18 years old, Armstrong possesses a vast amount of quality and potential, which usually makes for quite a promising combination.

It’s clear to see why Rovers would be interested in a move for the teenager, with David Moyes a big fan of the midfielder, and they would be able to offer the talent regular playing time.

However, he spent last season on loan at Derby County and thrived throughout, which puts the Rams in pole position to secure Armstrong’s services once more.

Eustace has previously shown how crucial his man management reputation is during negotiations, convincing the likes of Danny Batth, Andreas Weimann, Carlton Morris and Patrick Agyemang to join this summer.

Therefore, the Armstrong situation could see Rovers’ former boss deal them yet another hammer blow in the transfer window.
