Blackburn are battling against Sunderland to land Jayden Danns

Blackburn Rovers are desperate to pip Sunderland to the post in their pursuit of Jayden Danns, with the in-demand Liverpool striker potentially leaving on loan in the closing stages of the window.

That's according to Alan Nixon, who claims that boss John Eustace is hoping to talk Danns into a move to Ewood Park before the window slams shut on Monday evening, but Pete O'Rourke claims that Sunderland are also in the running for a late swoop.

Rovers have seen their promotion push later in recent weeks owing to some patchy form, but they remains firmly in the play-off race and seem to have identified Danns as someone who can aid their push to finally break into the top six.

They won't be short of competition for his signature, with Football League World exclusively revealing earlier this month that no fewer than five teams were in the race for the in-demand Liverpool man.

Blackburn have struck up a fairly good relationship with Liverpool down the years where loan players are concerned, with Harvey Elliott making a name for himself at Ewood Park only a few seasons ago.

Owen Beck is another Liverpool youngster currently on the books at Rovers, and Eustace is reportedly hoping to use that, and the fact Blackburn are in the promotion race, to convince Danns to move to East Lancashire in the next couple of days.

If he did so, he'd be following in his dad's footsteps, with Neil Danns also leaving Liverpool for Blackburn when he was a youngster, so Rovers do have a few positive omens on their side, but the Sunderland interest will concern them.

The Black Cats sit further up the table and in the thick of the automatic promotion race, while they're also in the market for a striker, but they are perhaps a little more stacked in attacking areas.

Eustace may have his work cut out to persuade Danns that a move to Ewood Park is the right one, as Liverpool boss Arne Slot would be happy to keep him at Anfield according to Nixon.

Danns has been a regular on the Liverpool bench, and has made a few substitute appearances this term, but Rovers could offer him the regular first-team football that so many youngsters need to develop their careers.

His potential arrival would create a bit of a selection headache for Eustace, with Makhtar Gueye starting to find his feet in front of goal, but there's no doubting that Danns would come in and instantly rank among the better strikers in the league.
