At this current moment, Liverpool will not loan out young goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo, as cited by Anfield Watch’s Twitter account.
When Kelleher was given an opportunity to play in Liverpool’s first-team last season, he showed that he could potentially be Alisson’s successor.
Kelleher made five appearances for Liverpool’s first-team last season. The 22-year-old averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.17.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
We are surprised to hear that Liverpool have no plans to loan out Kelleher this summer.
Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper, Adrian, has just signed a new deal with the club.
We don’t see the 22-year-old getting much of an opportunity with Alisson and Adrian ahead of him.
Therefore, it would make sense to loan out Kelleher this summer.
The reality is, Kelleher will improve by playing regular senior football elsewhere. With that being the case, we do hope that the club do consider moving Kelleher on for the 2021-22 season.
We will be keeping an eye on Kelleher’s short-term future this summer.
