Bizarre reports as Rangers pair linked with surprise transfers out

Something very strange is going on with Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak in the dodgy Scottish press and social media.

Out of nowhere, we’re hearing reports that not only are some Turkish mob making a play for Alfredo with their transfer window shutting tomorrow, but that a Serbian side are after Antonio Colak and have even had a bid rejected.

Can’t help wondering about the timing, with Rangers on a fantastic run of results and form, that the reports start trickling through that both our striker are subject to continental interest.

Colak? Yes, there is an issue there – he’s a wonderful, wonderful striker, more clinical than anything else in Scotland but the manager doesn’t favour him. He paid him lip service by praising him, and Colak was on record as being grateful, but the proof is in the pudding – Morelos is first choice again and Michael Beale likes the kind of forward he is.

And despite those promises to the contrary, Beale was indeed fibbing yet again that he was going to play the two together v County. That never saw the light of day as usual.

Nevertheless, for reports to simmer on the same day that Colak and Morelos are subject to interest and bids is a bit of a coincidence.

Can we afford to lose one? Beale’s system doesn’t favour the Croat, who, for 4 months, thought he’d finally found his calling in Rangers. But it went south with Rangers’ bad form under Gio then Colak got injured as well. So he can’t be happy now playing second fiddle and getting occasional cameos.

Colak will want a move if this is going to continue, because we just can’t see Michael Beale ever embracing him. Not with the style of football he plays.

But Turks after Morelos as well? It is getting ridiculous how many Turkish teams have been linked with the Colombian – at least half their top division by our reckoning.

Can Rangers afford to lose either? Well, if we lose either of them, we have no cover for the other. And that is far from ideal. Any club playing one up front should really have three strikers for the position, and there should be some rotation. Beale has put his eggs in the Morelos basket, so we’ll have to see if Rangers keep the pair of them.
