Yann Bisseck scored deep into stoppages to prevent an Inter friendly defeat to Pippo Inzaghi’s Pisa, with Piotr Zielinski, Nicolò Barella and Josep Martinez starting.
The Nerazzurri took to the field this evening and are working towards defending last season’s Serie A title.
Coach Simone Inzaghi faced his older brother Pippo on the touchline, but had a limited squad to choose from, because Lautaro Martinez is still on vacation after winning the Copa America, Marcus Thuram only returned to training yesterday and Mehdi Taremi is injured.
Joaquin Correa and Eddie Salcedo therefore started upfront, with Zielinski and Barella in midfield.
Inter had early chances, Barella’s cross finding Carlos Augusto for a diving header denied by a fantastic save, but Pisa broke the deadlock in first half stoppages when Gabriele Piccinini tapped in a corner that had come off the upright.
Substitute Davide Frattesi hitting the woodwork on the Bisseck assist.
Frattesi threatened again, kept out by a desperate block, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan and then Marko Arnautovic failed to finish off a scramble in the six-yard box.
Pisa almost doubled their advantage with Toure somehow hitting the upright of an open goal before Bisseck cleared off the line.
Barella wasted a huge opportunity from close range too on the Federico Dimarco cross and Arnautovic fired over the bar, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan was pushed into a surprising more advanced role to fill the gaps.
As a few jeers started to rain down from the stands of the Arena Garibaldi, Inter equalised deep into stoppages with Bisseck bundling over the line from a Hakan Calhanoglu free kick.
