Birmingham City midfielder Taylor Richards has admitted on Twitter that he is gutted that he cannot currently feature for his new side due to the extent of his injury.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues on a temporary basis from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.

After sealing this switch, Richards would have been hoping to line up for Birmingham in their clashes with Preston North End and Fulham.

However, the attacking midfielder was forced to watch on from the sidelines for these clashes due to an ankle injury.

Whilst Birmingham were able to seal a point in their showdown with the Lilywhites, they were no match for Fulham earlier this week as Marco Silva’s side secured a 6-2 victory at Craven Cottage.

The Blues will now be aiming to deliver a positive response to this setback when they host Barnsley at St Andrew’s tomorrow.

Currently 18th in the Championship, Birmingham could potentially put some daylight between them and the relegation zone by sealing all three points in this fixture.

Ahead of the Blues’ meeting with Barnsley, Richards has taken to Twitter to express his frustration with the injury that is preventing him from playing.

For Richards’ sake, he will be hoping to make swift recovery from this issue in order to give himself the opportunity to make an impact at Birmingham during the remainder of the current campaign.

Having provided an impressive total of 15 direct goal contributions for Doncaster Rovers in League One last season, it will be intriguing to see how the attacking midfielder will fare in a higher division when he is fit enough to feature.

Drafted in as a replacement for Riley McGree, Richards will need to deliver the goods on a consistent basis in order to fill the void left by the Australian who recorded an average WhoScored match rating of 7.02 during his second stint at St Andrew’s.

When Richards is ready to make his bow for Birmingham, Lee Bowyer may find it beneficial to ease him into action in order to prevent the possibility of another injury setback.
