Birmingham City are preparing to make a move for another Eredivisie star. This time they’re interested in signing NEC Nijmegen winger Sontje Hansen, with talks likely to take place in the coming weeks. TransferWatchNL are reporting that the League One side are showing concrete interest in the 22-year-old who impressed during his first season with NEC. The Netherlands U21 international was previously on the books at Ajax but recently opted for a new adventure rather than a new contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Sontje Hansen featured 38 times across all competitions last season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists. His super speed, skills and excellent ability on the ball made him an absolute nightmare for defenders last campaign and he’d certainly be able to do a job in England’s third tier. Manchester City were previously big admirers of Hansen, but a lack of game time at Ajax may have hindered his potential.

Birmingham have already signed two players from the Eredivisie this summer with Swedish winger Emil Hansson making the move from Heracles Almelo and Willum Thór Willumsson joining from Go Ahead Eagles. If Sontje Hansen made the move to St. Andrew’s, they’d definitely have the firepower to shoot straight back up to the Championship. The forward’s current contract at NEC is valid until 2027 which could make things tricky. More news is expected to come from this in the coming days.
