Chris Davies' Birmingham City are plotting a move to sign Danny Namaso
Birmingham City are weighing up a move for Porto forward Danny Namaso as Chris Davies looks to add another attacking piece to his Blues jigsaw before the transfer window closes.
The 24-year-old, who grew up in Reading and came through the Royals’ youth system, has been on the radar of several clubs across Europe after a steady rise in Portugal’s top flight.
As per Portuguese outlet Record, Porto are believed to value him at around €10 million, and while that price tag might make some Championship clubs flinch, it hasn’t put the Blues off exploring a deal.
The Blues have already been busy in the market, bringing in the likes of German striker Marvin Ducksch, Japanese attacker Kyogo Furuhashi and the returning Demarai Gray.
But the chase for Namaso suggests Davies wants something different: a younger, versatile forward who can grow with the club rather than just get them over the line this year.
Namaso’s career path is an interesting one. He left Reading for Porto in 2020 and has worked his way up through their B team, impressing coaches with his movement and work rate.
He’s been used both through the middle and out wide, a flexibility that would suit Birmingham City.
Clubs in Belgium, Spain and his native Portugal have all taken a look, but the pull of returning to England, especially with a club chasing promotion, could be decisive.
There’s also a sense that Birmingham have learned from recent near-misses in the market. The failed move for Chuba Akpom, which collapsed at the last minute before he joined Ipswich, underlined how unpredictable the summer window can be.
If they do land Namaso, he’d add another layer to an already impressive forward line.
Stansfield offers goals, Ducksch brings experience, and Furuhashi’s movement is a constant headache for defenders. Namaso could bring that extra injection of pace and pressing that Davies likes from his front line.
Nothing is done yet, but this feels like a move with more to it than just adding numbers. It would be a statement that Birmingham are not only pushing for the Premier League this season, but also thinking beyond it.
Meanwhile, Chris Davies' side could be saying goodbye to a handful of players before the transfer deadline on September 1st.
FLW understands that Blues defender Krystian Bielik could depart St Andrew's with a number of Championship sides vying for his signature.
The 27-year-old has firmly fallen out of favour at the Midlands side with an exit from the club now looking likely.
The Blues drew 1-1 in their opening Championship clash against Ipswich Town at St Andrew's and will be keen to pick up their first three points of the season as they travel to Ewood Park on Saturday.
