After being appointed London City Lionesses first team head coach, Allen said “I always coached while playing, even when I was young. I’ve always worked in Regional Talent Centres, covering pretty much every age group at every club I’ve been at. I’ve been putting in the work behind the scenes and have all of my badges.

“The experiences and learnings that I’ve taken from my time with England Under-23s can only put me in good stead for the future. Birmingham City were also fantastic with how they linked me to this side of the game, so I’ve put in a lot of work to prepare myself for the next step in my career.

“The priority [at London City Lionesses] is to come away from the bottom two. We need points on the board and we need them quickly. The players and the staff have been fantastic in terms of what they’ve been doing to prepare for the game against Reading.

“I watched training today and I was impressed with lots of what I saw. It’s going to be a competitive game tomorrow, with quality likely to be the deciding factor. It’ll be a difficult test, but I’m excited.”

London City Lionesses’ Barclays Women’s Championship fixture at Reading kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
